Prayer

We started today’s session by preparing ourselves for prayer by sitting in the “Sukhasana” pose and the “Gyan” mudra.

Dhyana Mudra

We chant “OM” 3 times, followed by prayers which are:

Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu
Gurur Devo Maheshwarah
Guru Saakshaata Parabrahma

Asato mā sadgamaya
Tamasomā jyotir gamaya
Mrityormāamritam gamaya
Oṁ śhāntiḥ śhāntiḥ śhāntiḥ

English Translation

Oh God! Lead me from the unreal to the real, lead me from darkness to light, lead me from death to immortality. May peace be, may peace be, may peace be.

Guiding Principles for Yoga Practitioners

Yoga guiding principles are divided into 3 parts which are:

  • Before Yoga Practice
  • During Yoga Practice
  • After Yoga Practice

Let’s discuss each of them in detail.

Before Yoga Practice

Following are the guiding principles that need to be taken before starting yoga practices:

  • Cleanliness of body, mind, and surroundings means making sure you do morning routines e.g. stool passing, bathing along with cleaning the area where you perform your yoga practice
  • Yoga practices should be performed in a calm and clean place
  • Yoga practices should be performed with an empty or light stomach
  • The bladder and bowel should be empty when performing yogic practices
  • A yoga mat should be used for yogic practices
  • Light color (preferred white which is a symbol of “Peace”) and comfortable clothes should wear by yoga practitioners
  • Don’t perform if you are not well or take guidance from a yoga teacher while performing yoga practices

During Yoga Practice

Following are the guiding principles that yoga practitioners need to follow during yoga practices:

  • A yoga practice session should start with prayer which helps us to connect to the divine energy
  • Yoga practice should be performed slowly, relaxed with full awareness
  • Don’t hold your breath unless it’s required for any specific yoga pose
  • Perform yoga practices based on your body and mind capacity
  • If you want a better result, perform yoga practices regularly
  • Be aware of the yoga practices’ contradiction
  • Yoga practices should end with meditation or relaxation yoga poses

After Yoga Practice

Following are the guiding principles that yoga practitioners should adhere to it after yoga practices:

  • Don’t laugh or talk after yoga practices for 5–10 mins
  • The bath should only take after 20–30 mins (Preferred is having a bath before the yoga practice session)
  • Eat, and drink after 20–30 mins of yoga practices session
